BIOGRAPHY

Nick Hais spent most of his childhood in Dorset and Devon. He was born in 1948. After leaving school he went to art college, initially on a Foundation Course at Bournemouth College of Art and then moving to Newcastle upon Tyne Art College, where he was awarded a Walter Neurath Art Book Prize. He graduated with a First Class Diploma in Art and Design (Dip.A.D.) in 1971. Nick was immediately taken on to the teaching staff at Newcastle Polytechnic and for the next four years he was a part-time lecturer on the Fine Art Degree Course.

After this, in1976, he became a full time painter. Initially he moved to Greece where he spent a year on Crete selling work from his studio and in the 1970s he had a number of exhibitions in Thessaly and on Crete. Since 1979 he has been living and working in, Dorset, where his son was born in 1985.

From1987 until the end of 2004 his studio building in Swanage, Dorset also acted as a contemporary art gallery, which he ran with his partner Jill Mirza. They exhibited their own work and that of a small number of other artists. During this time they produced a book on colour mixing, ‘Mix Your Own Acrylics’, which was reprinted many times. He has undertaken various painting commissions throughout his career, especially in recent years. He always works with images of his own choosing. Nick’s work has also been regularly exhibited in many different galleries and Art Fairs. Most of his paintings have been sold to private collectors, though many are to be found in corporate collections, including those of Accenture, Lucida plc, P&O, and Prudential plc.
