BIOGRAPHY
Nick Hais spent most of his childhood in Dorset and Devon. He was born
in 1948. After leaving school he went to art college, initially on a
Foundation Course at Bournemouth College of Art and then moving to
Newcastle upon Tyne Art College, where he was awarded a Walter Neurath
Art Book Prize. He graduated with a First Class Diploma in Art and
Design (Dip.A.D.) in 1971. Nick was immediately taken on to the teaching
staff at Newcastle Polytechnic and for the next four years he was a
part-time lecturer on the Fine Art Degree Course.
After this, in1976, he became a full time painter. Initially he moved to
Greece where he
spent a year on Crete selling work from his studio
and in the 1970s he had a number of exhibitions in Thessaly and on
Crete.
Since 1979 he has been living and working in, Dorset, where his son was
born in 1985.
From1987 until the end of 2004
his studio building in Swanage,
Dorset
also acted as a
contemporary art
gallery, which he ran with his partner
Jill Mirza. They exhibited
their own work
and that of a small number of other artists.
During this time they produced a book on
colour
mixing, ‘Mix Your Own Acrylics’, which was reprinted many times.
He has undertaken various painting commissions throughout his career,
especially in recent years. He
always works with images of his own choosing.
Nick’s work has also been regularly exhibited in many different
galleries and Art Fairs. |
