NH471 ‘Blue-Purple Balcony Chair’ 18 x 18 inches    45.5 x 45.5 cm    Acrylic on Canvas    2016
A small part of a folding metal chair and a similarly coloured section of a balustrade  operate together to create a diagonally based geometric composition with a limited range of  shapes and colours. Looking down from the chair on the balcony to the crazy paving of the  courtyard below results in a balanced tension between the varied elements and the whole.  Moving both across the picture plane and back into the pictorial space, from physical surface  to illusionistic depth the painting balances the two.
